Find an Internship

An internship is a great way to gain experience and skills in a field that you want to explore. Use these suggestions to find an internship that is right for you.

Internships give you the opportunity to:

  • Apply what you have learned in a position that is related to your career plans
  • Gain skills and qualifications that are required for the position
  • Choose specific professional goals to achieve so that you walk away with skills in that field
  • Explore a position to see if your career plans are right for you

No two internships are the same

Internships come in different forms; some may be part-time, full-time, paid or unpaid. Some may offer a stipend, a one time payment that helps you pay for expenses. An internship may be as short as one term or as long as one year. Many employers know that you have other responsibilities and are willing to allow a flexible schedule. To ensure that you are able to gain a breadth of experiences, the UO Career Center recommends that an internship be 9 or more hours a week. If you would like to get academic credit, check with your department or the UO Career Center in 220 Hendricks Hall, 346-3235.
